Mathematics at all grade levels has been divided into four major strands: Number, Patterns and Relations, Shape and Space, and Statistics and Probability. In each strand, students are expected to master the skills and demonstrate understanding of the concepts appropriate to their grade level. It is important for students to develop a positive attitude toward mathematics so that they can become confident in their ability to undertake the problems of a changing world. Students should also gain an understanding and appreciation of the contributions that mathematics has made to our culture and civilization.
